Dr. Joan Morrison has spent more time on ranchlands than the typical raptor biologist. Professor of Biology at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, Morrison studies the Crested Caracara, a beautiful falcon found year-round on Florida’s ranchlands and remnant prairies. Morrison’s research evaluates the feasability of using GPS cellular transmitters to study the caracara’s movement ecology and survival. Hopefully, this technology will facilitate the next research phase for this federally and state threatened species: A long term research project to understand breeding pair response to habitat conversion.
