This handsome two year old Florida Grasshopper Sparrow male sings his little heart out for a mate. Known as Orange-Yellow from his color bands, he did not find love right away.
Despite his persistent buzzing and endearing crown plume sticking up, he was solo for his second breeding season.
As one of the rarest birds in America, there are not many females around to hear his sweet, soft song.
Out on the beautiful, well-burned Florida Dry Prairie of Avon Park Air Force Range, he did find somebody the next season. Together, they raised a family. The dedicated biologists from Archbold Biological Station tracked his life story from nestling to parent. They protected his vulnerable ground nest from the gauntlet of predators.
